Antioxidants, New Hope for Autism
Type of antioxidant called N-Acetylcysteine or NAC, is believed could help the child who gets autism. Thus the results of research by researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.
NAC in vitamin C and E are expected to reduce the irritability condition and reduce repeat behavior patterns. "We're not talking about mild irritability disorder, but the measures do need to be appeased, such as throwing, kicking, hitting, and so on," said Chief Researcher, Dr. Antonio Hardan.
The study involving 31 children with autism between 3-12 years, held for 12 weeks. At the end of the test, irritability scores of children with autism are reduced from 13.1 to 7.2 of a check list from Aberrant Behaviour. Test results also showed a reduction in repetition of action in children with autism.
Although the researchers believe the NAC to be the best option for the treatment of autism therapy, but more research is needed on the dose used.
