Northern California Lottery Player Wins $401K Mega Millions Prize — Here’s Where the Ticket Was Sold

A Mega Millions ticket purchased in Northern California came incredibly close to hitting the massive $138 million jackpot, according to lottery officials. While the ticket missed the grand prize by just one number, it still secured an impressive payout of $401,252.

The winning ticket matched five white balls but failed to match the Mega Ball during the drawing held on Tuesday, December 30. Thanks to a 4x Megaplier, the prize amount was significantly boosted, the California State Lottery confirmed.

Unlike many other states, California adjusts lottery prize amounts based on total ticket sales and the number of winners, which can affect final payouts.

The official winning numbers for Tuesday night’s drawing were:

Mega Millions Jackpot Grows After No Grand Prize Winner

Since no ticket matched all five white balls plus the Mega Ball, the Mega Millions jackpot continues to grow. The estimated prize for the next drawing now stands at $257 million, with a cash option of approximately $72 million, according to the national Mega Millions website.

The next drawing is scheduled for Friday, January 2.

Mega Millions continues to be one of the most popular lottery games in the country due to its massive jackpots and frequent prize winners.

Last Mega Millions Jackpot Winner

The most recent Mega Millions jackpot was won earlier this month. On December 2, a player from New Jersey claimed the $90 million grand prize, lottery officials reported.
