The WONDERfools Episode 6 Recap: Secrets Explode as Chae-ni Faces a Terrifying Fate

Episode 6 of The WONDERfools pushes the story into darker territory as trust completely falls apart among the group. Between horrifying experiments, emotional betrayals, and a dangerous rescue mission, the episode constantly shifts between heartbreak and chaos while setting up the final stretch of the season.

The WONDERfools Episode 6 Recap: Secrets Explode as Chae-ni Faces a Terrifying Fate

The episode begins with Gyeon-un casually joking to Ro-bin that they should start a church themselves since Dr Ha’s organization is clearly making a fortune. But his mood quickly changes after noticing suspicious activity outside. He sees Chae-ni being dragged away and overhears Un-jeong discussing supernatural powers with someone nearby. Instantly realizing something is wrong, he becomes deeply worried.

Meanwhile, Ro-bin remains blissfully unaware of the danger surrounding them. He spends his time happily preparing food for everyone, expecting another peaceful gathering with his friends.

Elsewhere, the Church of Eternal Salvation gains even more devoted followers after Pal-ho performs what appears to be a miracle. In front of shocked believers, he restores a disabled man’s ability to walk. The crowd immediately views him as a holy figure, and donations begin pouring into the church.

At the same time, Jun-mo quietly warns Jeon-bok that the organization surrounding Dr Ha is becoming increasingly dangerous and manipulative.

Meanwhile, Ho-ran notices that Pal-ho’s physical condition is getting worse, particularly his injured arm. Concerned, she tries confronting Dr Ha for answers but is prevented from reaching him.

Inside Hawondo Lab, Dr Ha prepares Chae-ni for surgery. His real intention is terrifying, he plans to remove her heart. After being sedated, Chae-ni suddenly regains consciousness during the operation and desperately tries escaping. In a lucky moment, she spots coffee nearby, drinks it, and activates her teleportation powers, instantly escaping the laboratory.

At the same time, Un-jeong sits alone in his apartment reflecting on the choices he made. Flashbacks reveal that Dr Ha manipulated him by offering information about his missing family and mother. Desperate for answers, Un-jeong eventually agreed to cooperate with him.

Moments later, Chae-ni unexpectedly teleports into his apartment. Furious over his betrayal, she confronts him directly and asks him to help destroy Dr Ha and the scientists working under him. Another flashback reveals that Un-jeong secretly slipped coffee packets into her jacket earlier, giving her a chance to escape the lab.

Chae-ni asks him to help her run away, but before they can leave together, her teleportation activates uncontrollably and sends her right back to Hawondo Lab.

Dr Ha quickly captures her again and returns her to the operating table. When she regains partial consciousness, he emotionally manipulates her into believing her sacrifice is necessary. He even claims that dying would help Un-jeong reunite with his family.

Elsewhere, Gyeon-un desperately tries protecting his family by convincing them to relocate somewhere safer. However, his wife refuses to believe his fears and instead tells him to report Chae-ni’s disappearance to the authorities. To make matters worse, Gyeon-un learns that his wife has accepted a massive order from the Church of Eternal Salvation itself.

The stress leaves him emotionally exhausted and overwhelmed.

Meanwhile, Ho-ran uses her abilities to psychologically influence Chae-ni into accepting her own death willingly.

The next morning, Jeon-bok prepares to leave home and casually tells Ro-bin to bring Chae-ni back safely later, unaware that Chae-ni is fighting for her life elsewhere.

Soon after, Gyeon-un tells Ro-bin the truth about Un-jeong’s betrayal. Furious, Ro-bin insists they must rescue Chae-ni immediately. A touching flashback reveals why he feels so protective of her, during their school days, Chae-ni was the only person who stood up for him against bullies.

Meanwhile, Jeon-bok investigates Nam Sun-gyu’s disappearance and discovers he may be connected to the Church of Eternal Salvation. Jun-mo later confirms that Sun-gyu is indeed there.

At City Hall, workers quietly discuss Un-jeong’s sudden resignation while he packs his belongings in silence.

Not long after, Ro-bin storms into Un-jeong’s apartment and attacks him. Their fight quickly escalates as both men use their supernatural powers against each other. However, Ro-bin loses focus after receiving a call from Gyeon-un, giving Un-jeong an opportunity to knock him unconscious.

Shortly afterward, Jeon-bok calls Un-jeong and urgently asks to meet him.

Elsewhere, Chae-ni asks Dr Ha if her death will truly benefit Un-jeong. After hearing that her sacrifice supposedly helped him reconnect with his mother, she begins emotionally surrendering herself to the situation.

Later, Un-jeong visits Jeon-bok’s home and reads through Chae-ni’s bucket list. Looking at her simple dreams fills him with guilt and regret. Jeon-bok apologizes for the suffering he experienced at Hawondo Lab and begs him to reveal Chae-ni’s location.

Although Un-jeong still cannot forgive Jeon-bok entirely, he finally admits the truth about why he betrayed Chae-ni. Everything he did was driven by his desperation to find his mother.

Unable to live with the guilt any longer, he finally decides to save Chae-ni.

Soon afterward, Ro-bin and Gyeon-un reunite with him. Together, they begin preparing a rescue operation. Un-jeong asks Jeon-bok to organize a large public protest while he studies maps of the church and plans an escape route.

For the first time, the three men truly unite as a team.

Meanwhile, Dr Ha continues his horrifying experiments by using Chae-ni’s DNA to revive a dead rat. Elsewhere, Pal-ho, Ho-ran, and Ju-ran start questioning Dr Ha’s true intentions. Ju-ran even attempts to use her powers to force him to reveal the truth, but shockingly, her abilities do not work on him at all.

Outside the church, a massive protest soon erupts. While the organization struggles to control the growing chaos, Jun-mo secretly helps Un-jeong, Ro-bin, and Gyeon-un sneak into the building.

Jun-mo also reveals that he was once one of the orphan children saved because of the fire Un-jeong caused years earlier.

As the protest grows larger, Ho-ran tries manipulating police officers into shutting it down. However, Jeon-bok reminds them that the demonstrators have the legal right to protest peacefully.

Inside the lab, Un-jeong and the others quietly eliminate guards while Dr Ha prepares to operate on Chae-ni in order to save Nam Sun-gyu.

Realizing she is about to die for someone else’s survival, Chae-ni refuses to accept her fate.

At the critical moment, Un-jeong finally arrives and uses his powers to stop Dr Ha from harming her. While Ro-bin and Gyeon-un battle nearby guards, Un-jeong protects Chae-ni and apologizes for betraying her.

Once Chae-ni fully regains consciousness, she thanks him for coming back for her. Overcome with emotion, Un-jeong kisses her in an attempt to trigger her powers and urges her to teleport somewhere safe.

Unfortunately, before they can escape, Pal-ho, Ho-ran, and Ju-ran suddenly appear and attack the group.

The episode closes with Chae-ni deciding not to abandon her friends and returning to fight alongside them instead.

Episode Review

Episode 6 feels like the turning point the series has been building toward. The emotional tension is much stronger now that the main group has finally stopped working separately and started trusting each other again.

Un-jeong’s storyline carried most of the episode emotionally. His betrayal was painful, but the show successfully explains how grief and desperation pushed him into making terrible choices. Watching him finally choose Chae-ni over Dr Ha gave the episode its strongest emotional payoff.

The rescue mission itself was entertaining and intense, especially with the protest outside creating chaos around the church. The episode balanced emotional scenes and action surprisingly well despite how crowded the plot became.

However, the romance still feels underdeveloped. The kiss between Chae-ni and Un-jeong came out of nowhere emotionally, and the chemistry between the characters still feels more familial than romantic. It worked better as a desperate emotional moment rather than a convincing love scene.

Dr Ha also continues to stand out as one of the series’ strongest elements. The reveal that supernatural powers seemingly do not affect him at all makes him feel genuinely threatening heading into the final episodes.

With only two episodes remaining, the biggest challenge now will be whether this dysfunctional team can defeat Dr Ha while also saving Pal-ho, Ho-ran, and Ju-ran from his control.
